Ben Cavazos Kuwait H.U.R.T. 100
This message is for everyone. However it is especially for the participants in the H.U.R.T. 100. Half-a-world away, one of our own H.U.R.T. runners will doing the same as you are--running 100 miles. Ben Cavazos is one of a very select few of runners who has participated in every H.U.R.T. 100. This year Ben is serving our country, deployed in the Middle East. Ben is a special guy and this is not something the H.U.R.T. race directors would normally allow, however for Ben, they have made an exception.
Please click here to read about Ben's quest and his mission to raise money for the Wounded Warrier Project.
Good luck Ben. We'll be thinking of you!
Aloha, Bob

BenRunner-
Congratulations Ben for a great personal achievement and for what you've done for our wounded warriors! Beverly and Lori both provided me some of the details that will be posted on the 8th HRSC website! What you've done for our wounded warriors will certainly be appreciated for years to come. Stay safe, Army Strong!

SGM,
Outstanding! Great Job! I ran with you on laps 15, 16, & 17 (I have not run that long in over 8 years). It was a distinct honor to do so!

Way to go, Ben!!!! All of the family members of the 8th HRSC team are so very proud of you. It takes a really special person to set out to accomplish such an amazing race. Not only have you inspired us all with your determination and strength, you have also raised awareness and needed funds for soldiers who have sacrificed so much.
We miss you guys. Get some rest and stay safe.
With Much Aloha,
The family members of the 8th HRSC

We just heard that Ben finished his 100 miles in 18:49! Wow! I think his wife (Bev?) and brother-in-law were here at the HURT 100 to learn the great news. Congratulations!

All,
Ben has completed his 85th mile. He is in great shape, great spirits and motivated as ever. WWP donations are going very well. He is running with LTC Sena and MAJ Edwards at the moment, and will be finishing the race with MAJ Edwards and others (TBD).
This is amazing for both Ben and Paul. A real united ohana at the aid station. Good luck to all and we will send a note shortly at 95 miles.
We have received donations in excess of $6,000 dollars. This is great.
Take Care.

Peter Khallaf

All,
Ben is almost at 60 miles. He has not exceeded a ten minute pace yet. He is in great shape, great spirits and motivated as ever. WWP donations are going very well. So far SGT Martinez, SPC Bartz, SGT Espinas, SGM Watson, MSG Strohbek, LTC Gum, MAJ Tiemann, LTC Hardy, SFC Bennett, LTC Neely have supported the race. Pit Crew is working hard to provide the necessary items.
This is amazing for both Ben and Paul. A real united ohana at the aid station. Good luck to all and we will send a note shortly at 80 miles.

All,
Ben and Paul are running real well. Ben came in at 0915 am for his first 20 miles. He looks really strong. He is looking for a 10 minute pace and has remained consistent. He just left for his 30-35 mile leg. CPT Isreal did 30 miles with him and SGT Martinez came in at 25 and will complete at the 35 mile mark. The unit morale is high and we have rasied nearly $3,000. Really Amazing!!
We will keep you all posted.

Good Morning!! The HURT 100 Kuwait is started and Ben is on his 10-15 Mile Section. He is looking good and has stayed at just under a 10 minute pace.
The start was great and it was so much more special knowing the Cavazos Team was on hand. A huge thanks for PJ and John. We had a crowd of nearly 100 and the morning was a cool 40 degrees. With a simple Hawaiian prayer and the official start from Hawaii Ben raced off around Camp Arifjan.
We will keep you posted and send some more pictures.
Take Care.

Jay

All,
All final loose ends are tied up with the Aid Station in Kuwait and this will be the last note before race time. It is 10:49 PM in Kuwait and 0500 will come around fast. We will be calling PJ at 4:50 PM after the runners meeting at the Nature Center and look forward to John to starting the race. Again, a big Mahalo to the HURT race directors and as Ben begins the race all our prayers will be with him and the superb runners back in Hawaii as they get one good night of sleep before the HURT. Good Luck to all of you.

Jay Edwards

Hello. I am helping Ben with the logistics of the race here in Kuwait. We are trying to simulate the Aid Stations, but nothing can compare to the HURT 100 Aid Stations, but we will try. Everything is going well here and we thank everyone for all the great support to make this event happen. Good Luck and we will keep the updates coming from the desert. Good luck to all.
