H.U.R.T. Hawaii

Run with a View is Saturday, 5/10 at 7:00 a.m.

The next race in the 2008 H.U.R.T. Trail Series is coming up very fast--this Saturday May 10th. The Run with A View race is 8 miles of fun. In typical H.U.R.T. style, the course is 4 miles uphill and the second half, all downhill.

The race starts at the neighborhood park (on the left) at the corner of Kaahele St. and Naalii St., goes 1/2 mile up Kaahele St. to the trailhead and makes a 7 mile clockwise loop on trails before returning back down Kaahele St. to the park. It is 8 miles total. Cheryl will be stationed at the only aid station at the 3.5 mile mark, so plan to bring a water bottle, as you may need it. The race starts at 7:00 am, so please be there to check in by 6:30 am with your $10 entry fee. Awards will be given to the first 10 men and to the first 10 women finishers and there will be soda, water, gatorade and food at the finish. Fun for all ! We also have a limited supply of nice, new Patagonia/HURT Trail Series shirts for $20 each.

Driving directions: If you are coming from Honolulu, take H-1 freeway ewa direction to the Waimalu Exit. After taking the Waimalu Exit, immediately get into the left lane and prepare to stop at the traffic light. Take another left at the stop light, getting onto Moanalua Rd. (heading Diamondhead). Go to the 2nd traffic light, Kaahele St., and take a left (mauka). continue up Kaahele St. for quite a distance up the hill, until you reach the stop sign at Naalii Street. The neighborhood park is on the left and there is plenty of parking on Kaahele St.

Top of Tantalus Results

Aloha Athletes:

Seventy-five runners participated under almost perfect conditions at the first H.U.R.T. Trail Series, Top of Tantalus. Rex and Kat put out quite a spread for the post race celebration. Oh yea, the results, a new course record by Justin Harris and no woman took over 2 hours. Apparently a few people got twisted around on the course or used that as an excuse to put in more miles. :-)

Thanks Rex and Kat and the other volunteers for putting on a great race.

Top of Tantalus--First H.U.R.T. Trail Series Race is Saturday

This Saturday, April 12th is the first race in the H.U.R.T. Trail Series. Race Directors Rex Vlcek and Kat Tagaca are expecting a large turnout. Please consider riding with a friend since parking is limited. The great news though is that the road is open this year, so we can take the shorter drive to the race start.

Rex and Kat are still looking to confirm some help at the aid stations and for picking up after the race. If you can help out please contact them immediately.

Remember for all trail series races, there is no pre-registration or early sign-ups. Just show up race morning at least 30 minutes prior to race start time, pay the entry fee ($10), and be ready to run. Since this is the first race, you can pre-pay for the entire series ($60) and get a savings of $10 over the seven races.

H.U.R.T. Trail Series--First Race is April 12

Just a quick reminder that the first race in the 2008 H.U.R.T. Trail Series is coming up real quick on April 12.

This first race is the Top of Tantalus (Pu’u’Ulaka’a State Park)  race (7 miles) and Race Directors are Rex Vlcek and Kat Tagaca. This first race is always fun and has a great start and finish format. 

More details will be posted soon. Remember these races are easy to enter--no pre-race registration. Just show up the morning of the race at least 30 minutes before race start and pay $10.

2008 H.U.R.T. Trail Series Schedule Available Now

Some of you have been asking about this. Others may have already noticed. The 2008 H.U.R.T. Trail Series schedule is here.

These are fun, low key, races that are great for first time trail runners and experienced runners. There is never any early registration, Entrant fee's are just $10 per race. Show up 30 minutes before a race to sign-up. You'll see one change this year. This last race in the series, the Peacock 54.
