GREAT JOB there MikeM and for Rex being your witness!!! I hope to spend some quality time on the trails soon with the two of you!!! Fish's light is really bright! After about 4 hours it did start to dim but it still provided sufficient lighting.

I was informed by the mainland group Ultra Running People(U.R.P.) a week ago that my 60 hour run was in their opinion nothing more than a stunt, and not a Birthday Run at all. They asserted that any REAL Birthday Run has to be in miles and must be for time, as everyone on the mainland knows that time is what really counts. They went so far as to tell me that I could not even count the first 60 miles of my 60 hour run as my birthday run because it was not officially a 60 mile run and that as long as my birthday run was not official and meeting the standards of the Birthday Run Committee (U.S.A.) I could not even claim 60 years of age on my next visit to the Mainland!

In view of this I was forced to run a 60 mile run, with a witness, for time and distance. Rex was kind enough to accompany me Friday night and Saturday as we made three HURT loops. So now it is official, I have indeed run a birthday run of sixty miles, with times of 7:30, 7:45 and 7:25. Not great times, but the self support stashes were a major drag on time. Probably could knock off 10 to 15 minutes per loop to adjust. Rex was very happy with the result as it is his best three loop showing official or otherwise. I’m just happy to have my double play of 60 Hours/60 Miles.

When I mentioned my intent to run a 60 miler to Don so soon after the last madness he decided to go to Peacock as he felt I was in need of straight jacket and wanted absolutely nothing to do with the insanity- (sometimes he has no sense of humor!) There were times, however, when I too wondered what I was doing out there in the night holding onto a tree waiting for my heart to catch up with my body and the white out to dissipate from my brain. But as others can attest it was a beautiful evening and wonderful day, with only the last few hours filled with heavy rain and mud.

Looking forward to tonight's workout. Fish's light is pretty darn strong when I flashed it in a dark room at home. :) I am sure there will be a lot of them out on the trails tonight! Much mahalos Fish!!!
