Aloha Runners,
We understand there are a few runners who have decided not to run HURT this year…………………..can we please appeal to your senses of honor & decency to let us know soon? We have a lot of people scheduled to run and way too many people on the wait list!
We would like to say that we’ll cut off your legs if you’re stalling……………...but we’re not that kind.
Aloha,
John

If anyone is still looking for a pacer run training partner, I am more than willing to help out or volunteer for the 100 miler. I ran the marathon at 10 min mile average and the xterra 10 k just over 10 min mile pace. Central Oahu location contact via e-mail mikeike12000@yahoo.com Thanks.

Cut off your legs! I think that's only the New Jersey chapter of HURT that does that!On second thought, they just make you do the run with cement shoes! Bada-bing!

Fruedian slip....as I have been repeatedly called a 'Now-Shower' kind of guy...and on occasion been asked to burn my gear.
Aloha is, in part, being able to put the needs of others before one's own.
And frankly nobody really does care why you haven't been out on the trails. At least in the form of hearing it as some whinny kind of excuse for failure to train.
Anyway...Aloha is not some mamby pamby everybody should feel good kind of schtick. That's just some westernized bs used to sell guava jelly and macadamia nut candy. If you want that kind of Aloha you can find plenty of it at Longs...it's on sale just before this month's major schtick.
HURT aloha is telling you to get off your lazy ass and make some serious decisions before you screw with other people's hopes and plans. This is the only local race that is a qualifier to many mainland races. Given the number of local people who want to run this year the spots are now more than just a ticket. Nobody has a right to be there. We all should be earning that right through ensuring we have adequately trained.

while I don't believe that I'm guilty of being a "no-shower," I am definitely guilty of being what Mike referred to as a "chronic now-shower." For those not in the infamous group, that is when you either stink really badly, or your race performance stank equally badly, and all Big John can manage to say to you in your pathetic state is "SHOWER....NOW!" Hence, the "now-shower" distinction.

"Save the explainations as we generally don't care what your excuses are. Just be decent enough to let someone more deserving of you have their chance at running the race. That is, after all, a large part of what Aloha is all about."
I would disagree...that doesn't sound like aloha at all.

and don't forget there's always Pacers needed... if you're an "iffy" entrant, then you can still enjoy the Event by contributing as a Pacer and participate in that way. Post on the blog...I'm guessing there's runners out there that still need a pacer for loops 3,4,5

John is a nice guy, and too polite for the situation.
There is no excuse this year for letting things just ride as you 'play' with the idea of getting out there and 'maybe' doing the 100K. The 100K is for those who train and are limited in their abilities or overcome by misfortune in the race. It is not a 'maybe I can do that at least' for those who should be doing the 100 Miles and have let the need to train properly get beyond them.
If you have not trained, or are injured, or are finding yourself overcome by family responsibilities for the holdidays, or have experienced a combination of these misfortunes and obligations, then it is time to step up and let someone else have your spot.
The race has a memory, and chronic now-showers, lazy DNFs, and complainers are remembered. So don't push your luck. If you know you have not trained hard enough to finish then it is time to be fair to those waiting in the line who have trained and give up your spot. Save the explainations as we generally don't care what your excuses are. Just be decent enough to let someone more deserving of you have their chance at running the race. That is, after all, a large part of what Aloha is all about.
