Contact DonF or Mikem to discuss this matter. Not tying to appear abrupt or nasty, but it is best to keep this matter off the web.

Thanks.

Heather Howells

I'd love the opportunity to run up the mountain again! Count me in.Aloha, Heather.

I did the run in 1985, and was looking forward to doing it again in 2010 to mark 25 years since that accomplishment, after finally returning to ultrarunning this last year. I'd love to hear from anyone who is putting together a support team, vehicles, etc. (my wife is too scared to drive that road by herself!).

NO LISTS, NO RACE, NO LOGO's, NO SUPPORT, NO crybabies.

Somebody has mentioned a day, a time, and a place. That is it.

We do this as unoffical groups. Back to the basics.

You run up, you damn well better have support up and a way down. OR it's the RTS up/down.

This run imploded on support, supervision, oversight, liability, and responsibility issues. To do away with that means you might as well be doing three loops of HURT trails unsupported, or a Peacock 54 on your own.

If you intend to do this you can NOT just show up and expect to utilize other's support structures.

I have done a self support on this hill and it takes at least 3 stashes to the Park with 80 to 100 oz on yer back. It means a full bladder for the 12 mile romp to the top. If you get into trouble you can not just flag down a ranger, you need to have somebody there for you.

It also means cleaning up stashes on the way down. A support vehicle is necesary to at least get you back down the hill. It helps on the way up too, but with a group it is difficult keeping everything in the car given the increasing distances between runners.

I'm sure anyone who wants to do this can find a group to do it with. Start looking now. Each group must self support and clean up after themselves. We get bad weather and there is not going to be a nice van at 9000 feet. You are on your own in the sleet and cold.

Please think about these things and plan accordingly. If you want to go up that hill, don't let it turn into some kind of nightmare. Plan, plan, plan.

Aloha, Mikem

Awesome. Please put me on the List. Saves me the $80 for Hilo Marathon plus adds a bonus 10 miles for FREE. Bargain.

Yay! This is great! I'll be out there too!!

Great idea Bram !! Count me in. Several of us were very bummed about not having our good buddy Haleakala to battle in 2010. Can we order some weather like last year? If you need some help, the HURT bunch will be happy to do our part.

See you on March 6th ! Mahalo, Don
