Saturday Training 2-5-11 "More Tantalus Road"

Aloha Athletes !

Last Saturday was a blast and provided many opportunities for runners of all abilities to interact and share in the fun, regardless of the starting time or start location. Thanks to everyone who participated...it was a nice group ! So,what the hey, let's do it again.  Most will likely start at 6:00 am at the Board of Water Supply pumping station a half-mile or so below the Hawaii Nature Center, although it will surprise me if some will start earlier and some later. As PJ says: "Be there or be square".  See ya !  Don

Visiting Runner Looking for Some Possible Night Runs

Aloha HURT Athletes,

I'm working in Honolulu for a couple of weeks, visiting from the UK and staying in Waikiki.
I'd like to meet some people with local knowledge to do some off road / trail running in the evenings. I'm used to running on rough terrain at night with a headtorch.
Do any of the HURT lot get out running in the evenings? Do you know anyone who might not mind an ignorant Brit tagging along? If I'm too slow (which is quite likely looking at your blog) I don't mind being dropped.

Cheers for any help,

James Riggs

The Maui Charm

Haleakela3

There are some people running the road to the top of the Haleakala mid-March in memory of a race that used to be held before the Feds got all pucker lipped sour and decided they couldn’t stand organized fun.  Some other people have been thinking it would be a good idea to do something else on Maui about that time too.  Since some other people ran around Maui last year that was kind of ruled out as the  neat thing for this year.  Somebody mentioned fast packing up the backside of the Haleakala, starting from the bottom of the Kaupau gap.  That sounded kind of cool.  Some other people realized that there is yet  another way up that hill too.

All in all it seemed  an interesting venture to attempt.  Hence was born the Maui Charm. Three summits of the Haleakala, on three consecutive days, along three separate routes. A true test of the old saying ‘Three's a Charm.’

As always this kind of insanity is unsponsored, unsupported, and unwise.  It is not for the average HURT kind of runner.   BUT it may attract a few people.  A half dozen dedicated souls seeking to find some sort of fulfillment in endless hours of physical stress, mindless pain, and psychotic levels of depravation would be optimal.

If you are interested in some real ‘March Madness’ and not just couch potato gut stuffing stupidity you are invited to contact me to discuss this jaunt further.  Also we have a couple of places still open for the February Round Kauai trek.  Mm

Saturday Training 1-29-11 "Tantalus Road"

Aloha Athletes !

With the "Unofficial" Run to the Sun coming up in Mid-March it seems appropriate to start training for that fun event. This Saturday, the plan is to meet at 6:00 am at green Board of Water Supply building, also referred as triangle park, a half mile or so below the Hawaii Nature Center. There's generally parking along Makiki Heights road. The "Insomniacs" will likely be starting earlier and the "Old Farts" starting later, further up the road, but this venue keeps everyone connected. Just keep going uphill until you top Concrete Road and do as many repeats as you have time and energy for. Have a blast !  Don

2011 HURT Trail Series Schedule

Aloha Athletes,

Just in case you have not noticed, the 2011 HURT Trail Series schedule is posted on the top left side of the site. The HURT Trail Series remains one of the best ways to get trail run experience, learn the trails in a fun way, meet other trail runners, and is one of the best race value's on the island.

There are a couple of changes this year with starting times and the final race, is now the Peacock 100K so be sure to get this info on your race calendars. More info will be coming out for each race as they get closer.

Aloha, Bob

Lost and Found

Aloha Athletes,

After every race we always are either looking for items or have extra items. Please contact us if you are missing something and we can post it here.

Right now we are looking for a grey women's hoodie sweatshirt. I believe it is Lululemon brand and zips. It was lost at the Nature Center.

If you have seen this, please contact me.

Aloha, Bob

P.S. I will be posting more HURT 100 photos over at the HURT 100 site. Just giving you all time to digest the 600+ that are already up there.

Hope I'm not spamming the board here... I just want to say thank you so much for the incredible hospitality and support at HURT 11!!! The folks of H.U.R.T. are incredible, from the RD's to the volunteers and sweeps! Your aloha spirit makes this event really special and dear to me!!! Thank you so much for all of your hard work in putting on the HURT 100!!! Hopefully, I'll see you all next year!!!!!!

Mahalo!

All Day!
~Ken

Saturday Training 1-22-11 "The Garden Potluck"

Aloha Athletes !

Well folks, most of the mud has been washed away from runners' legs for another HURT 100. Cheryl thought it would be fun to have a workout at Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden and meet afterward inside the Garden for a potluck. So here's the plan: meet at 7:00 am at the entrance to the Garden at the end of Luluku Rd. and go thru the Garden, up past the golf course and then under Pali Hwy. up to Pali Lookout and return to the cars. Faster runners can do more, but the object is to all congregate at the equestrian area, inside the Garden, at 9:45-10 am for a potluck. It should be great fun to talk story and relive HURT 11.  Don

Trail marking reminder

Aloha All !

Don't forget, tomorrow morning Friday January 14 at 8:00 am sharp, we will be meeting at the lower parking lot at the Hawaii Nature Center to split into teams to mark the HURT 100 course. It definitely will be very muddy and likely wet so plan accordingly. Please bring water/fluids and trail snacks as we will be out there for a few hours. Supposedly there will be a film crew working somewhere on the course.

It should be a blast !  See ya there,

Don
