Saturday Training 4-21-12: Run with a View Training Run/Preview

Saturday Training 4-14-12: Peacock Flats

Aloha Athletes,

Cheryl says back to Peacock this week. Meeting at the parking area behind the Dillingham Airfield control tower. Start time will be 6:30 a.m.

It is starting to warm up so make sure you take some type of electrolytes and your sunscreen. Plan on taking with you at least 60 oz. of water/hydration. Remember you can always choose to run more or shorter.

Not sure where to go or what is involved in running up at Peacock? Post your comments/questions in the Comments below.

A few other running events going on this weekend. One local and easy one for Kailua/Windward folks--the Kalaheo 5k Spirit Run/Walk. Saturday morning 7:30 a.m. www.active.com for more info.

Get out there and run!

Aloha, Bob

Great day Saturday at Peacocks. Seven of us made it out and had a long morning, finishing up the west side loops in about six hours. It was perfect weather, and the views were just stunning. I'm not always a long drive, rise early fan, but it was certainly worth it this past week.

We will be mixing in Peacocks runs over the spring and summer and you should plan on getting out there and enjoying the trails before the hills turn brown and it heats up. Aloha Mikem

thanks Mike and Good Luck Benita.
Next week we will do a preview of the Run with a View course.

Please enjoy! I wish I was joining y'all but i will be running the north shore marathon on Sunday. Next week I will return to being a dirt diva!

If you are new and joining us for the Peacocks training run please remember to follow Bob's advice with regard to water, electrolytes and nutrition. The climbs can take a lot more out of you than the mileage indicates it should.

Also, these are well defined trails, but complicated by many offshoots and side-trails. Please run with others who know the running routes, and do not stray from the trails.

Finally please allocate sufficient time to do the training run, and be prepared to spend more time and resources on it than you might feel it indicates.

Over preparation and caution rarely causes one trouble, but lack of either sometimes does.

That said, it's great training and we hope to see some new faces in the parking lot.

Aloha, Mikem
