2012 Tantalus Triple Trek Saturday, September 1. 5:30 a.m. Start

Race Day: (Saturday) September 1, 2012 - 5:30 am Start.
Aloha Kakou,

Welcome to our 21st Annual TTT.

OK, here’s where we get a little serious on the mileage (50km or 30 miles), after all, this race marks the official beginning of H.U.R.T. 100 training for many runners. As usual, there is no pre-registration, so just come early on race day, bring your $10 and sign-in.

Each runner will complete three of the Trek 10 mile loops, coming back to the Nature Center aid station each loop. For those of you not familiar with the race course, we suggest you study the attached map, (perhaps you may want to print this out & carry a copy ).

We will have the usual race munchies which will cater to most palates with iced water & gatorate/electrolyte drink at both aid stations. Usually race participants bring their own concoctions/special needs & you are highly encouraged to do so.

Race Directors will be there to open the main gate at 4:30 am, and set-up for registration by the Nature Center bathrooms.  There is no parking above the second gate, so please park on Makiki Heights Road below the Nature Center entrance. We would appreciate it if we didn’t fill-up the lower parking lot, so please kokua and try to park out on the road or even down by the water tank and walk up. Only race officials and volunteers can park up at the top.

Please arrive early enough to park & bring any needed gear up to the start & sign-in.

It will be dark on the trail for the first half hour- suggest you bring a small flashlight.
Aid stations will be at the Start & at the 7 mile Tantalus Road crossing. The Tantalus aid station will stay open until 1:30 pm, so plan accordingly. “Please take enough fluids with you especially during the later part of the afternoon”. (Most runners bring their own electrolytes)

Cutoff is 11:30am, to leave the Start-Finish station for the third loop.

Dropouts need to inform the race directors (Fish/Sue/Heather), so we won’t be looking for you in the woods after the race.

The course will be marked with coloured ribbons. Runners will be advised as to the colours on race day. This is a figure eight course, so different coloured ribbons will overlap in some areas of the course. As always, BLUE is BAD! So do not go that direction. Bad sections & hazards will be clearly marked with Blue ribbons.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Aloha Athletes,

The hike starts from California Ave in Wahiawa to the Koolau summit and back. Its a rugged 14 mile hike with awesome views. I have to the end of August to get the permit. Mahalo!
Please either contact me directly or post your interest with name and number of people in comments below.

George Ramos is One Strong Dude!

I dropped in on George at Queen's after going into another room first and seeing a rather large man that really didn't look like George!  The other man was nice, but I needed to find the real George.

Cancer takes its toll and too many of our HURT family see this.  George was happy, alert and already thinking about helping at HURT 2013!  This guy is amazing.  I just wanted to relay how strong he is pushing his mind to endure this challenge.  We all need some true heros in life to keep us motivated.  George is added to my list of inspirational heros.  When you are out there training and suffering, think about those who would gladly change places with you, get up and tack on a few more miles.  Be safe and train hard!

ScottG's BDay Fun Run Sat 8/25

Join us for a birthday fun run! We will be running the Mariner's Ridge -> Kuli'ou'ou Loop (trail + road) to celebrate Scott's birthday. The loop will take about 3 hours (no idea how many miles it is), so carry plenty water.

Meet at 7am at Island Brew Coffeehouse in Hawaii Kai (next to The Shack in the Safeway/Longs shopping center). The run will start at 7:15am-ish and will be followed by post-run breakfast at the same spot. Hope to see you all there!!

Saturday Training 8-18-12: Trek Loops

Aloha Athletes,

This week's training takes us back to the Makiki-Tantalus trail system. We are starting to prep for the Triple Trek coming up in a few weeks so time to get some miles in on the course.

Meet at the Nature Center at 6:00 a.m. Plan at least one trek loop but feel free to do as many as you want.

You know the drill, it's hot out, so lots of fluids and electrolytes.

If you have something else planned and would like some company, post it in the comments.

Aloha, Bob

2012 Maunawili Out & Back Results (UPDATED)

Aloha Athletes,

I am sorry I missed today's Run with the Pigs. It sounds like it was a fantastic race and of course, Race Director's Marian and Neal provided amazing post race food and gifts to all runners.

Thank you to all the runners who came out and participated. It looks like there was a great turnout and fast times. I know there were lots of helpers and others who aided in putting this race all together.
