Photos from Cheryl's Birthday Hike

Here are some photos from Cheryl's birthday hike on the Schofield-Waikane Trail.  There was a good turnout today and everyone had a wet, muddy, fun, awesome day!  Thank you Gordon for organizing this event and getting the permits required for the hike. And thank you to Marian for making that incredible chocolate birthday cake for Cheryl, it was so delicious!

Saturday Training 9-15-12: Cheryl's Birthday Hike or Peacock Flats

Aloha Athletes,

For those who responded to Gordon's earlier offer, here is the info for Cheryl's Birthday Hike. This hike required Gordon to get a permit and he asked for names as he needed to put those on the permit.

Meeting time will be 7:00 am at the very mauka end of California Ave in Wahiawa, near the two green water tanks. We have to be quiet since we are parking in a neighborhood. The hike is 14 miles long on a rough and muddy trail wih many ups and downs. I helped clear it recently with the Hawaii Trail and Mountain club so most of the brush is cleared from the trail. Our goal will be to reach the Koolau Summit. Bring enough water, snacks and maybe a rain jacket. Long pants are optional. For more info my e-mail is makuahills@gmail or my cell #808-478-2798

For those not heading out on the hike, I am sure some of you will be running up at Peacock. If so, and you would like some company, post your plans in the Comments below.

Aloha, Bob

Aloha HURT Ohana,

I'm still working on processing the TTT as well as Run with the Pigs photos....

The next 2-3 minutes of your time could be worth over $4,300 to me. No purchase necessary all you have to do is click on the link below, like Norman Camera’s page and provide your email, name & confirm you’re 18 or older and it will give me an additional entry into the contest to win a Canon 5DIII and lens kit. This is the camera I’ve been drooling over since it was announced because I know it is capable of taking photos in conditions that I could otherwise only dream about, like on the HURT100 course that is darker due to the thick canopy of growth overhead. Contest ends Nov 5th so you can unlike their page after that if you want.

What would be really cool is if you would also share this link on your page so your friends can also help me out and increase the chances I’ll be equipped with the gear that will allow me to take even better photos of you to share with your friends/family. I’ll even provide the text so you can copy/modify/paste.

Mahalo for your support!

Please help my friend win a Canon 5DIII and lens kit so he can take even better photos of me and our friends when we’re out on our runs together. It will only take a minute of your time, literally. Click the link below, like Norman Camera’s page and provide your email, name & confirm you’re 18 or older and it will give him an additional entry into the contest. Mahalo for your support!

Saturday Training 9-8-12: Peacock Flats for Peacock 50k & 100k Training

Aloha Athletes,

As predicted (and prescribed), back to Peacock this week. Time to get some miles in. Meeting at 6:00 a.m. behind the Control Tower at Dillingham per Cheryl. I am sure you will have all sorts of distance choices you can make on this one.

If you have something else planned and want some company, post it in the comments below.

Aloha, Bob

I would like to extend my appreciation and many thanks to the HURT community my wife, Janel, and I met and ran with at the Tantalus Triple Trek. We truly had a great time, and with the great people I met on the trails, and the support of the HURT staff and volunteers, we will definitely be running with our newly found ohana. Thanks again. Thomas Roback

2012 Tantalus Triple Trek Results (with UPDATED WOMEN'S results)

Aloha Athletes,

Yesterday's Tantalus Triple Trek was run under almost "perfect" conditions. Just the right amount of sun, mud, and fun to make sure everyone had a great time. I think there were slighly over 50 runners signed up for the 5:30 a.m. in the dark start. Of course the rabbits took off while the main pack of runners were happy to start at a bit more leisurely pace knowing the three loops can take their toll.

I know several people were trying to pace themselves at equal or even negative splits on the loops so starting off a bit slower makes since.

Congratulations to David Carlson winning overall. Rosie Warfield was a repeat winner on the Women's side.

We had some visitors taking part in the race as well and I believe 3rd place male, Andrew Kovaleviz, jumped into the race while visiting Hawaii from San Diego.

2012 Triple Trek Results (UPDATED)

Mahalo to Race Directors, Sue Lohr, Heather McCafferty, and Fish for putting on a great race and spread of post race treats. Thank you also to Neal and Marian for manning the aid station at the road crossing. I know they saved more than one runner. Of course, John and PJ for making this all happen.

Robert Smith and his wife were out on the course taking photos as was Akabill. I am sure you can find the links on FaceBook.

Triple Trek has traditionally kicked off HURT 100 training for many runners. For now though many runners will focus on the final race in the HURT Trail Series, the Peacock 100K.

Hope to see you all out on the trails.

Aloha, Bob
