Mango Madness, June 8! Sign-Up Now

MANGOlogoMango Madness is the next race in the 2013 HURT Trail Run series. It is 10+ miles and travels through the mountains of the Tantalus trail system. The "plus" usually means there's a bit of 'madness' thrown in...a detour, a potato sack race... Be ready for anything. The trail is quite technical with many rocks, roots and muddy sections. $15 gets you a great course, great food and a guaranteed great time. Meet at the triangle park, or pumping station, at the corner of Makiki Street and Makiki Heights Drive for a 7am start time. If you have not yet registered, go to Ultrasignup before midnight on Wednesday, June 5!

Custom designed technical dri-fit tees are an additional $15 and can be preordered by May 22. Simply send an email to Melanie with your shirt size and email address.  You will receive a paypal invoice through which your purchase will be processed.

See you there! Melanie

Mango Madness Training Run: Saturday 5/18, 7:00AM, Water Tank Park

I'm back, and I'm bad,  or maybe ripe...well,  pickling ready at least.....and rolling hot for sure!

Mango marv

Marv here.   Cheryl has asked me to come out and lead the Saturday training run along the 'Official' Mango Madness Trail. (Just like old times....)  It's part of the Hurt Trails, and we start from the Pumping Station at the bottom of Makiki Heights Drive.

We will start at a reasonable hour, 7:00 AM, as I can not fall off the tree until the sun is up and warming.  It's a 10 miler or so.  After we finish runners can do another round of the Mango loop, or a reverse trek which is a bit of a variation.

These are the REAL trails. You can train where you like, but when push comes to shove, or trip more likely.  The Triple Treck and the 100 are here.  Come on out and start to get your lines down.  The trails are a bit different given the weather and there is no time like now to reawaken the thrill and anticipation of long hard hours of rolling hot along these magnificent trails.

Aloha,   Marv.

2013 Run with a View Results (UPDATED with Photo Link)

Aloha Athletes,

Just a quick post to get the results up from this morning's Run with a View. Not sure the rain dancing worked as it looks like some fast times. Fun to see Mr. Jakob Dewald working his way up, taking 3rd overall today. Now it won't be long before he wins one of these runs!

(There is another photo link in the comments)

I look forward to hearing more about it and hopefully seeing some photos. The only photo I have seen so far is of the carrots given as a prize. I am sure the RD's, Cheryl and Rosie put out quite the spread post race. Now back to my proposals and other fun work! Sorry to have missed it.

Aloha,

Bob

Rob Lahoe was out on the course and has provided a link to photos he took here.

Thank you to Kat and Judy for being the Race Directors. I am sure many others helped as well--so thank you to everyone that volunteered.

The next race in the HURT Trail Series is the Run with a View on May 11th. Race registration is again on Ultra Signup and you can do that here.

Aloha, Bob

Vi's Top of Tantalus Memorial 7-Mile Run is Saturday April 6th at 8:00 a.m.

Aloha Athletes,

As we posted earlier, runners must now pre-enter all Trail Series races, through Ultra Sign Up (www.ultrasignup.com). Entries are limited, so get your entry in early! Deadline for this race is April 4, midnight. Sorry to have to escalate the process, but it is necessary in order to keep the Trail Series going.

Vi's Top of Tantalus run will start and finish at the Puu Ualakaa Park, about two miles up Tantalus Mountain on Roundtop Drive. This race is conducted in memory of our dear HURT friend, Vi Medusky-Jones, who passed away from ALS two years ago. You might remember the fun 3 mile event we put on at Kualoa Ranch for several years, to bring awareness to ALS. That was at Vi's request, and I know she'd be tickled to see that we've named our race for her.

According to our permit from the Division of State Parks, we have to leave parking spaces open to other park users. Please park out on Roundtop Drive, outside the entrance to the park, making sure your car is completely off the roadway. Carpooling to the race is encouraged. Otherwise, if you can get 4-5 people into your car at the gate, we'll let you through to park inside.

The race will start at the covered lookout, past the bathrooms. and finish in the upper parking lot. The route will be marked with our ribbons, which will be explained race morning when you check in. There will be one aid station mid-course, and light refreshments at the finish. The course is rugged and hot, and we urge you to carry a water bottle...our aid stations are only to supplement your water needs. This is a State Park, so alcohol is not permitted. If you have to drop out, it is mandatory for you to inform the race director at the start-finish, before the race is over.

We all look forward to seeing you, and spending another raucous morning on the trails!

Immediate Changes to HURT Trail Series--Important

Aloha Athletes,

From very small and humble beginnings, our Trail Series has grown up. With unbelievable Race Directors and very supportive runners, we’ve found that we’re fast approaching some self-imposed limits that we want to set so that the races can continue.

Therefore some changes to the Trail Series are being implemented effective immediately. We are going to start using Ultra Signup for the trail series races starting with the upcoming race. Race fees will now be $15.

We have all had conversations the last year or so on the growing number of runners at the trail series. Registering, timing and impact on the trail system are all concerns. We want to keep having the ability to use the trails and we want this to be easy for all involved, including runners.

So starting with Vi's Top of Tantalus run on April 6th, registration will take place at ultrasignup.com and the race fee will be $15. Registration will close on 4/4/13 or two days before the race. For other Trail Series races, registration will close a week before the race.

You can register for all of the HURT Trail Series races starting now at ultrasignup.com. If you are new to this site, you will find an incredible listing of other races around the country and we use Ultra Signup for the HURT 100 race registration.

It will still be a fun and “family” experience and yes, we will still write your number on your leg.

Please go to ultrasignup.com to sign-up for any and all trail series runs effective immediately.

Feel free to call me personally with any concerns. (eight oh eight two 3 five zero 5 sevin 7).

We appreciate your understanding.

John Salmonson
