Saturday Training: February 2, 2013 Peacock Flats

Wow, it is February already (almost as I type this) and 1/12 of 2013 is gone.

Cheryl says back to Peacock for this weekend and why sleep-in?

6:00 a.m. Start from the parking area behind the Control Tower at Dillingham Airfield. Hopefully the gate will be open that early. Probably a Gordon's Loop. If you have never ran up at Peacock, this is a great way to start to familiarize yourself with the trails and roads up there.

Bring at least 60 oz of hydration and a snack.

Saturday Training: January 26, 2013 Ho'omaluhia Shuffle/Breakfast Potluck

Aloha Athletes,

This Saturday a little post HURT100 recovery run/shuffle is planned. Meet outside the Garden at 7:00 a.m. Remember to keep quiet as we are parking in a neighborhood.

Round trip will probably take an hour or so to do an out and back in the Garden. It is just 5-miles. Those wanting a bit more can go to the Pali Lookout and back. I think round trip, that is 9 miles.

The garden opens at 9:00 for cars and we typically potluck all the way in at the last parking/picnic area. Once we are done with breakfast, John and PJ need some help with cooler/gear clean-up and we can head over there to give them a hand.

The HURT 100-Mile Endurance Run

NEW HURT LOGOIn case you have been off line, in a cave, or under the weather, this weekend is the HURT 100. Many of you are either running the race, volunteering at the race, pacing a runner, or in some way helping out. If you are not, come on out and help cheer on the runners, lend a hand and see what you are missing. More info is on the HURT 100 Trail Race site.

Please help choose backdrop(s) for HURT100


Please only "Like" these photos if you are running in the HUR100. I'm looking for feedback to help select the backdrops (shooting positions) for the HURT100 next weekend. I can't make any guarantees that I'll make it to any particular location but I will do my best to make it to one or more of the more popular (most "Liked") locations. So, please look through them all and only "like" your favorites so it makes it easier to determine which are the overall favorites. Mahalo for your help.

Some of the preview images look like duplicates but if you look at the full photos you'll see that one is landscape and the other portrait. Some locations I might have time to capture both but some locations I won't so I posted both.

Please keep in mind these are taken in the direction you will be running toward me so you won’t see these views, aside from in photos, unless you stop and turn around while you are on the course.

Saturday Training: January 12, 2013 Reverse Trek Loop

Aloha Athletes,

This Saturday we will run a 10-mile reverse Trek loop. This is the traditional week before the HURT100 run. We plan to start at 7:00 a.m. from the Nature Center. Please be on time if you are planning to join in.

Yes, it is true, the 2013 HURT 100 is just days away. Are we going to have a wet, dry or somewhere in between course this year? What is your prediction? The last several years have seen relatively dry race conditions.

HURT Runners Are Special and Running to Make a Difference (Updated)

The HURT 100 is fast approaching as many of you know on January 19 and 20. Some runners have stepped up to raise some funds for excellent causes. 

Two time winner Jason Loutitt is raising money for a foundation called Playing for Change. More info here.

Saturday Training: January 5, 2013 Holiday Trail Series #3 or HURT Loop

Happy New Year Athletes!

Let's all make 2013 the best ever!!

This week I saw that the Soul Runners group is meeting at 7:00 a.m. to run a HURT Loop starting from the Nature Center. This seems like a good option for those of you wanting more HURT loop time.

Holiday Trail Series #3

We are ready for the final race in the series. This Saturday, January 5, 7:30 A.M. at the top of Pupukea Road.

This is, as far as we know, the first time that we will have a race on this loop. The Pupukea Loop is about 6 miles, and will be on a great trail. There will be a section on asphalt towards the end.

As usual, email us at [email protected] to sign up. We will begin at 7:30AM. There will be refreshments after the race. Donation of $10 recommended.

Directions: Drive to Sharks Cove, and turn up on Pupukea Road (by Foodland), drive all the way to the top and we will be starting on the other side of the gate at the top.

Visiting HURT runners are starting to arrive. Show them some Aloha if you see any of them out on the trails. On January 12, we will be running our traditional pre-HURT reverse trek loop starting at 7:00 a.m. from the Nature Center.
