Matt Leathers will be Missed!!

Matt L at 2012 BanquetToday we learned missing Navy Seal was one of our own, Matt Leathers. Matt finished the HURT 100 in 2012 and also participated in the 2013 race. We are all extremely sad about this loss.

My own personal experince of Matt was limited. I remember him from running up at Peacock in 2011 and Barbi and I saw him out training for HURT in early November of 2011. When race day for the HURT 100 came around in January of 2012, I saw him at the pre-race meeting but didn't recognize him as he was in full beard and I am guessing probably just returned from doing what Seals do in some far away place.

The HURT family expesses our deepest condonolences to his personal family and members of his Seal family. We know all of this hits them extremely hard as well. Saturday Training: March 2, 2013 Peacock Flats

Aloha Athletes:

We are headed back to the North Shore this weekend.  Be ready to go for a 6:00 a.m. start from the parking area behind the Control Tower at Dillingham Airfield. There are options for distance: anywhere from 8 to 28 and beyond.  If you are new to those trails, be sure to stay with someone who has experience out there. 

For any early risers, I will be starting at the bottom of long road at 4:00 a.m. and will join up with the 6:00 group at some point.

Bring at least 60 oz of hydration and a snack.

Saturday, February 23, 2013 Moanalua 6-Mile (Updated)

Aloha Athletes:

Saturday is the first race of the 2013 H.U.R.T. Trail Series, Moanalua 6-Mile.  Moanalua trail is one of the "easier" trails around, but will serve as a good warm up for the trail series. Distance will be approximately 6.2 miles to make it a 10k., it will be an out-and-back course.

Directions, you will find Moanalua Valley Trail at the end of Ala Aolani Street, take the Moanalua Valley Tripler Hospital Exit on the 78.

Please park along the street leading up to the park, and be courteous and quiet as it is early morning in a residential area.

Sign-up will be at the park, and the start will be inside the gate.

Sign-up will start at 6:30AM and end at 7:20AM. Start fee is $10. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. There is no pre-registration prior to Saturday morning.

Oh, and there is some kind of crazy, fun, all-night, sweetheart thing happening.  For all of you wild participants, don't forget to be ready-to-go at 6:00 pm with your lights glowing, your shoes laced, and your stomachs growling!

Saturday Training, February 16, 2013 Peacock Flats

Aloha Athletes:

Same place, same time, different faces. The dynamic duo of Mike and Jacque will lead folks through Peacock Flats - likely to include Are's Loop and Gordon's Loop (possibly 16-17 miles).  Start time is 6:00 Saturday at the Dillingham Airfield parking lot.  Bring a minimum of 60 ounces of fluids, snacks, and sunscreen.

Some HURT folks will be playing in the mud on Saturday at the Swamp Romp.  If you are getting down and dirty on Marine Corps Base Hawaii, don't forget to keep your mouth closed, except of course when smiling for the cameras.

Saturday Training, February 9, 2013 Peacock Flats

Back by popular demand…...Peacock Flats this weekend!

Saturday at 6:00 a.m. Start from the parking area behind the Control Tower at Dillingham Airfield. The gate should be open that early. The route will likely be up Kealia trail and around Gordon's Loop (roughly 14 miles round trip). There are many variations possible to shorten or lengthen your run.  However, if you are new to Peacock, it is best to stick with those who are veterans of the trail! Besides, hanging with Cheryl guarantees fun and entertainment!

Bring at least 60 oz of hydration and a snack.
