Vi's Top of Tantalus - Race Results

Aloha Athletes!

Yesterday brought us an abundance of rain and mud to the second race in the trail series, Vi's Top of Tantalus 7 miler.

A huge mahalo to our race directors Kat and Judy. The beanies for race prizes were a premonition of things come as the temps were utterly freezing yesterday. Most runners stuck around just long enough to consume a host of calories from the food table before setting off in search of warm clothes and dry vehicles. Special thanks to John and PJ for doing an amazing timing job and getting all the runners checked in, marked and ready to go.

Results can be viewed here:    Vi's Top of Tantalus 2014 Results

Congrats to Jake Rankinen and Candes Gentry for their wins. Best of luck to Jake as he heads off on deployment and we'll be looking forward to your return to the trails in September. Stay safe! Thank you for all that you do.

Most importantly, it's important to remember that none of the races in our trail series could possibly happen without all the work completed behind the scenes by the race volunteers. A warm aloha to Cheryl, Marian & Neal, Mike Cole, Augusto, Barbi, Mike Hee, Feddy H., Fish, Jacque, Rosie and everyone else who took part in organizing and cleaning. None of this can happen without you. Melanie was also gracious once again in providing hats of her own design for the Male and female finishers who came from farthest away. Utah and Australia were the winners.

Don’t forget to sign up for the next race in the series, Run with a View on May 10th. The course is new and improved this year, with an increase in the mileage for 10ish miles of fun and hills!

Special shoutout to one of our ohana, Hannah Roberts who stopped by to say hello. Her time in Hawaii has come to an end and she's off any day to begin her across the US bicycle adventure (with a few hundred milers thrown in). We'll miss you Hannah and can't wait to follow along with your sea stories!

A hui ho,

Rosie

THU or FRI long run?

Hurt Ohana, I am in town this week and planning to do a long run THU night(preferred) or FRI morn (early!) before my flight back. Peacocks would be great (long road to a Gordon's loop) or I can do tantalus or a waimanalo o/b.... Anyone interested just post here, or Facebook me. If no takers, I will likely do peacocks on Thursday night... Jake Hinz

Vi's Top of Tantalus 7-Mile Run: Saturday, April 12th at 8:00 a.m.

Aloha Athletes,

Remember the deadline to sign up (www.ultrasignup.com) for the race is April 9, 11:59p. 33 slots remain!

Vi's Top of Tantalus run will start and finish at the Pu'u Ualakaa Park, about two miles up Tantalus Mountain on Round Top Drive. This race is conducted in memory of our dear HURT friend, Vi Medusky-Jones, who passed away from ALS three years ago.

According to our permit from the Division of State Parks, we are required to leave parking spaces open to other park users. Please park out on Round Top Drive, outside the entrance to the park, making sure your car is completely off the roadway. Carpooling to the race is encouraged. Otherwise, if you can get 4-5 people into your car at the gate, we'll let you through to park inside.

The race will start at the covered lookout, past the bathrooms, and finish in the upper parking lot. The route will be marked with our ribbons, which will be explained race morning when you check in. There will be two aid stations at the two road crossings, and light refreshments at the finish. The course is rugged and hot, and we urge you to carry a water bottle...our aid stations are only to supplement your water needs. This is a State Park, so alcohol is not permitted. If you have to drop out, it is mandatory for you to inform one of the race directors at the start-finish, before the race is over.

We all look forward to seeing you, and spending another raucous morning on the trails!

Kat and Judy
