TRIPLE TREK COURSE PREVIEW/TRAINING, 8/27

Aloha Everyone,

Only one last weekend on the trail to get a final loop or two in!

File_000This Saturday, August 27, Jeff will be leading another preview/training runs to go at least one full loop of the course. Meet at the picnic and restroom area at the Maunalaha-Kanealoloe trail head (by the Hawaii Nature Center) at 5:30am. Bring a minimum of 20 oz of water as well as any nutrition (gels, energy bars, magic potions) you require, a (handheld) flashlight/headlamp, and most of all, a big smile. If you have not yet been on race course, make it a point to join us or have someone who does know it to take you on it very soon!! If you will be joining us and haven’t been on the Tantalus trails, please make it a point to remain with Jeff and the group, or be with someone who knows the course. As no pacers will be allowed for the race, it is highly recommended for those not familiar with the course to participate in this final session.

Here is a map of the course:

Many congratulations to all that ran last weekend’s Maunawili Out&Back 22-miler (aka the Run with the Pigs). As usual Marian and Neal Yasuda have outdone themselves in putting on another great event that’s kept us coming back year after year! It’s now time to keep those legs going for the final race of the H.U.R.T. trail series, the Tantalus Triple Trek (3T)!

This Saturday, JulieT will be leading the first preview/training run to go one full loop of the course. Remember there are will be only two weeks until race weekend. Please meet at the picnic and restroom area at the Maunalaha trail head (by the Hawaii Nature Center) at 6:30a.m. Bring a minimum of 32 oz of water as well as any nutrition (gels, energy bars, magic potions) you require, and most of all have fun. Everyone is welcome to join us for this training run – you don’t have to be registered for the Triple Trek race, and all levels of trail runners are encouraged to come! You don't have to run the full distance (or you can go longer), come and do as little or as much as you like.

Hope to see you on the trails!

Running the Night Jan 3rd 2014

Leaving from Paradise Park around 5pm for a night crawl.  Likely last long run, so slow and steady (and safe).  Plan for a loop plus repeat.  Parking below the bus stop on Manoa Rd.  Lights, food, umbrella (jk) and good attitude.  Come for a few miles, a few hours or less.  If you need to start earlier or later, feel free and we'll connect on the trails.  Aloha - Paul S.

Mango Madness Training Run: Saturday 5/18, 7:00AM, Water Tank Park

I'm back, and I'm bad,  or maybe ripe...well,  pickling ready at least.....and rolling hot for sure!

Mango marv

Marv here.   Cheryl has asked me to come out and lead the Saturday training run along the 'Official' Mango Madness Trail. (Just like old times....)  It's part of the Hurt Trails, and we start from the Pumping Station at the bottom of Makiki Heights Drive.

We will start at a reasonable hour, 7:00 AM, as I can not fall off the tree until the sun is up and warming.  It's a 10 miler or so.  After we finish runners can do another round of the Mango loop, or a reverse trek which is a bit of a variation.

These are the REAL trails. You can train where you like, but when push comes to shove, or trip more likely.  The Triple Treck and the 100 are here.  Come on out and start to get your lines down.  The trails are a bit different given the weather and there is no time like now to reawaken the thrill and anticipation of long hard hours of rolling hot along these magnificent trails.

Aloha,   Marv.
